THE CYCLES OF OUR SUN

The sun goes through an eleven year cycle of sun spot activity (which ranges from light to heavy). This solar activity was at it's calmest in 1996, but is continuously rising. It is thought to reach it's climax early in the new millenium.

High and violent sunspot activity can in turn create an increase in solar storms such as flares. These solar storms may occur within the sunspots, and will appear and disappear in regular cycles. They can damage electrical devices here on earth. In fact the last time the sunspot activity reached a maximum, it caused power failures in many countries and severe damage to numerous satellites.
