Taha'a is the sister island of Raiatea. Imagine Tahiti, sinking in the ocean over time. The coral polyps would keep the barrier reef just under sea level, but the island would continue to sink into the shallow crust until it became two distinct islands. At that point your would have twin islands, just like Raitea and Taha'a. We took Bruno's tour of Taha'a, sister island of Raiatea. It was an all-day excursion that we booked online before going on the cruise. It is one of those must-do excursions. The shallow cut on the NW side of Taha'a was probably the most beautiful place I have ever seen... and I am widely traveled. My camera had no battery life... so no pictures of that site.. darn it! Yet, pictures would not do it justice. Look west through the cut and you see Bora Bora in the distance. Look east at deep green, lush Taha'a, flanked on the south and north by picture-postcard motus with Coconut palms, white sand beaches. The cut is full of coral and fish. Wowww!!!! Bruno's Excursion blue -- http://www.tahaa.net is a must do. Tour includes Vanilla production, pearl farming, lagoonarium (snorkel the cut next to it), circling Taha'a, and snorkeling in the cut mentioned above. I have never seen so many shades of blue and blue-green as in that lagoon. You return in time for the native children's show onboard the ship. Bruno can be contacted at tpt@mail.pf.

One of the most beautiful areas on earth is a cut between two motus on the barrier reef of NW Taha'a. Bora Bora can be seen looking to the West. Lush Taha'a can be seen to the East. Beautiful motus flank the North and South with beautiful water flowing, abounding in coral and fish. My camera had a dead battery when I was here, so I could take no shots, but Aaron Lessing's camera was functioning, so here are a few shots.. that really do not give the area justice..

Looking west, it is possible to align Bora Bora
with the openning in the cut through the reef.
Two motus flank north and south.
