(visitng Mayan ruins, a cenote, watching our local flamingos, fishing, just hanging out, etc.)

Note:
Chicxulub, a small nearby village a few kilometers to our west, has much to offer. There are restaurants in town. Depending on the time of year, the festivals in the town square are an interesting and entertaining Mexican experience. Just to the west of Chicxulub is the port of Progreso. Progreso features a nice beach (but not as nice as ours!), jetski rentals, and other watersports options. There is a large crafts market near the pier as well as other tourist shopping along the town's streets. Watching tourists come and go from cruise ships is popular excursion for some. Talk to some, and they will be jelous that you get to stay when they have to leave! There are several restaurants along the beach road that serve drinks (and/or food -- some great seafood) at tables and palapas situated right on the beach. A North American style grocery store is available for those that are not adventurous enough to purchase their food at the Mexican open-air markest. Extensive Mayan ruins are found all over the Yucatan, and they are great for day trips. The closest is Dzibilchaltun. There is an18 hole golf court in the area. A half-hour or so north is Merida. Anyone who has visited Merida will probably tell you it is their favorite Mexican city. There is always something exciting going on in Merida. The road between Merida and the beach is one of the best in Mexico: wide, multi-laned, low-traffic, and ligthed. The road along the beach to Uaymitun is also excellent. Most of it is lighted and cars are few. The last few kilometers near our house is unlighted, but I think you will like it like that. We do. That makes it great for star-watching at night!
